Job Description

The Applied Systems Laboratory (ASL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is assembling a team of engineers who will support multiple sponsored programs with developing and expanding continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using DevSecOps practices. This is in support of an Army sponsor who has transitioned from Waterfall to Scaled Agile Framework. Resources supporting these efforts currently reside at GTRI and include support on-site in government facilities in air-gapped environments. Located in Huntsville, Alabama, ASL conducts world-class applied research in system modeling, simulation, analysis, testing, evaluation, and software development to support the government sponsors.

The DevSecOps Engineer will be responsible for maintaining existing resources primarily focused on application administration but not limited to system administration for new requirements. This team will work directly with the sponsor to understand application security and development to expand existing capabilities and support transition to containerized applications.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain and integrate DevSecOps applications (Atlassian Jira, Confluence, Crucible, Bitbucket, Subversion, Jenkins, Fortify, Ansible)
  • Work with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, and other container applications
  • Work with the ISSO/ISSM to provide STIG compliance of operating systems and applications
  • Provide status updates to the government sponsor and cross-train other DevSecOps team members
  • Have extensive knowledge of IT operations and system administration roles, expertise in software build and release, automation tools, and project management experience
  • Provide advice on security best practices and guide teams in developing, adopting, and enforcing security and access policies appropriate to desired platforms
  • Review and analyze vulnerability data to identify security risks to the organization
  • Build and maintain a set of tools that provide an integrated development environment

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or Management Information Systems or related degree.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or Management Information Systems or related degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or Management Information Systems related degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or related degree,
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or Management Information Systems or related degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience using DevSecOps applications (Atlassian Jira, Confluence, Crucible, Bitbucket, Subversion, Jenkins, Fortify or Ansible)
  • Experience working in a DevOps environment and technical knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Perl, or Bash)
  • Knowledge and experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment pipelines and trends
  • Familiarity with Information Security frameworks/standards (i.e., CIS, NIST, RFC2196, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Security+ or CISSP certification
