Job Description

GTRI in Huntsville, AL is looking to assemble a team of engineers who will support multiple sponsored programs with developing and expanding CI/CD pipelines using DevSecOps practices. The primary sponsor has transitioned from Waterfall to Scaled Agile Framework. Resources supporting these efforts currently reside at GTRI but also include support on-site in government facilities in air-gapped environments.

The DevSecOps team will be responsible for maintaining existing resources primarily focusing on application administration but not limited to system administration for new requirements. This team will work directly with the sponsor to understand their application security and development needs to expand on existing capabilities as well as supporting an effort to transition to containerized applications.

Job Duties

  • Perform Linux Administration, including installing, configuring, monitoring, managing, and maintaining RHEL7 physical and virtual servers.
  • Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and security in both classified and unclassified network environments.
  • Support physical and virtual server management (VMWare ESXi).
  • Evaluate and apply operating system (OS), networking, and software security patches.
  • Resolve vulnerabilities on RHEL7 physical/virtual servers using Nessus
  • Harden RHEL7 servers and workstations using STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guides) Benchmark standards.
  • Support performance monitoring including utilization, capacity, and availability.
  • Documentation Management (maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation on infrastructure).
  • Develop and implement automation solutions to improve operational efficiency and solution delivery.
  • Develop Ansible Playbooks
  • Ability to investigate and resolve problems through research with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain and integrate DevSecOps applications (Atlassian Jira, Confluence, Crucible, Bitbucket, Subversion, Jenkins, Fortify, Ansible).
  • Work with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, and other container applications.
  • Work with ISSO/ISSM to provide STIG compliance of OS and applications.
  • Provide leadership status updates and provide cross-training to other DevSecOps team members.
  • Have extensive knowledge of IT operations and sysadmin roles, expertise in software build and release, automation tools, and project management experience.
  • Familiarity with Information Security frameworks/standards (i.e. CIS, NIST, RFC2196, etc).
  • Build and maintain a set of tools that provide developers an integrated development environment.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Information Systems.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Information Systems and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Information Systems and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Information Systems.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Software development lifecycle tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Crucible, Jenkins, etc)
  • Performing system hardening and validation
  • Scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell, Perl, Python, YAML, etc.)
  • Five or more years supporting Linux system administration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret Clearance
  • Security+ or CISSP certification
  • DoD 8570 OS certification

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
