Job Description

The DevOps and Product Support Engineer in the Applied Embedded Systems (AES) division of the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) will support multiple research products and projects in concert with development teams who are building complex, multi-faceted embedded and electronic systems. AES is predominantly focused on the research, development, testing, and deployment of embedded electronic and electromechanical systems. These systems provide our sponsors with technological solutions in the fields of Electronic Warfare (EW), command and control, communications, avionics, entertainment, physiological monitoring, and other applications. This position can be located in Atlanta, Ga, or Tucson, AZ.

Job Duties

  • Develop basic expertise on platforms/systems under development
  • Oversee code releases and delivery of release artifacts
  • Build, manage, and maintain Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Manage Information Technology (IT) infrastructure needed to support software code development in dedicated or cloud environments
  • Select and support deployment models
  • Direct and support testing to validate release, and monitor performance after release
  • Prepare test data, analyze results, troubleshoot problems, and communicate issues back to the development team
  • Assist with development and internalize software engineering/development best practices
  • Research and stay up to date on the latest Department of Defense (DoD) and non-DoD Software Modernization technologies
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team on large, complex development efforts
  • Develop technical papers for conferences and develop/present briefings to potential sponsors
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Systems Engineering or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree..

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Masters degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Systems Engineering or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree. and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Systems Engineering or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree. and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Systems Engineering or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree.-.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with scripting skills including Bash and Python
  • Experience with build, testing, and profiling tools
  • Experience with Linux administration and Configuration Management (Ansible)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret Clearance
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) practices, artifact management, and automation pipelines
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Containerization experience, including Kubernetes, Docker, etc
  • Experience in cloud computing environments
  • Experience working with and/or integrating embedded systems
  • Experience working on DoD infrastructure and systems

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
