Job Description

The Components Research Device Engineer is responsible for inventing and delivering solutions to advance the performance of active transistor and passive technologies that are in R+D at Components Research. The role involves leading research and development in transistor physics, establishing performance/yield criteria, and reliability assessment in order to model, architect, develop, measure, quantify, and ultimately ensure a path to meeting the long term technology specs. Collaboration is required with process development and module research teams in Components Research to define experiments and developmental goals, and drive fast-paced silicon development to meet timelines.

Components Research Device Engineers are responsible for:

  • Performing e-test assessment of novel transistor and passive technologies, including but not limited to DC testing, RF small-signal and large-signal characterization techniques, pulsing, stressing, etc.
  • Establishing e-test metrics and criteria of a device based on required application specs for, e.g., power delivery, RF/analog and logic Vcc
  • Quantifying the trade-offs between various device parameters, generating and exploring novel solutions to meet and solve the demands for continued performance improvements in devices.
  • Communicate and clearly identify the performance as well as debug failing elements of transistors and passives, e.g. capacitors, inductors, resistors.
  • Development and prove or disprove of models along with the necessary measurements to advance the understanding of device physics, e.g. traps etc...
  • Use understanding of semiconductor device physics to project, quantify and benchmark performance of a device with best known solutions in literature/academia, and industry best in class.
  • Activities include semiconductor device test and measurement, data analysis, model development, industry/academia benchmarking, communication in a team environment

This is an entry level position and compensation will be given accordingly.


You must possess the below requirements to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your schoolwork and/or classes and/or research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences.

Minimum Requirements:
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline, must have the required degree or expect the required degree by September 2021.

6+ months experience in the following areas:

  • Semiconductor Device characterization and data analysis
  • Transistor physics: Group III-V/Nitride, Group IV
  • Circuit functionalities/design/debug/characterization including power, RF and logic circuits
  • Design of experiment, statistical analysis methods and analysis software, such as JMP

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in high voltage, power, RF high-frequency techniques
  • Familiarity with reliability characterization techniques
  • Coding/scripting language (Vee/C/C++/python/Matlab)
  • Hands-on experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscope, pulse generator, semiconductor parameter analyzer (CV-IV), and controlling software
