The Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for all research, design, development, test, and qualification of camera hardware for Apple products. The Camera Systems Engineering Group develops technologies to enhance and provide new camera and depth sensing features. We are responsible for system-level analysis, end-to-end system simulations and documentation of system requirements. The activity spans early stage concept definition, technology benchmarking, and prototyping to feeding those concepts into volume manufacturing. The team is the direct link between HW and SW algorithm team and defines system specification. The team is seeking an exceptional systems engineer with interdisciplinary skills and experience with depth sensing to participate in and contribute to our forward-looking projects.

Key Qualifications

  • KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with depth sensing systems (stereo, structured light, time-of-flight, lidar...)
  • Excellent understanding of optical sensing concepts
  • Excellent understanding of system light budget
  • Knowledge of sensor physics
  • Strong programming skills (Matlab, Python, C, C++)
  • Expertise in image and signal processing
  • A background in optical design and analysis and/or radiometry is a plus
  • Knowledge of lasers and/or photonics technologies is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Must be self directed, highly organized, able to manage multiple projects and priorities, and thrive in cross-functional team environments

Description

Proven track record modeling and simulating camera and/or depth sensing systems.

You will contribute to the camera & depth technology roadmap by performing detailed analyses and trade studies for depth sensing systems and technologies.

Help identify new use cases and limitations of current technology and propose new hardware solutions.

Identify critical emerging technologies to push the envelope of Apple's depth sensing systems. Their work will feed into strategic technology decisions.

You will possess outstanding analytical skills and be comfortable working in a highly dynamic environment.

Education & Experience

MS, or PhD in physics, computer science, optics, image science, electrical engineering, or related field.
