Engineers within Intel's Logic Technology Development (LTD) organization are chartered with continuing to meet the challenge of Moore's Law in the 21st century. We innovate leading edge fabrication process and continue to overcome seemingly impossible barriers as tolerances and specifications for building best-in-class computing devices become increasingly rigorous.


The LTD Process Sustaining Engineer's role encompasses ownership of equipment configuration and module infrastructure, with the goal of maintaining a stable manufacturing line capable of high yield and throughput. This position will be in one of the Front End Thin Films Deposition (physical vapor deposition, chemical vapor deposition, or atomic layer deposition) or Epitaxial Growth modules.


Responsibilities of a Process Sustaining Engineer might include:

  • Maintain production and development tools, analyzing tool data and logs to diagnose tool faults, coordinating resources to perform repairs, and overseeing repair and maintenance activities.

  • Establish and build upon existing partnerships with external vendors and internal organizations to define and enhance procedures and equipment configuration to maximize quality, manufacturing availability, and throughput.

  • Define and drive projects that meet or exceed requirements of quality, reliability, cost, yield, process stability, process capability, productivity, safety, or ergonomics over variables such as material, method, equipment, environment, and operating personnel.

  • Operate and support the manufacturing line by establishing safe operating procedures, monitoring equipment performance, and providing after hours on-call escalation for material disposition and alarm response.

  • Maintain and perfect automation and process control systems to improve module indicators such as cycle time, equipment availability, and process stability.

  • Transfer the complete manufacturing process (recipes, tool configuration, procedures, etc) to counterparts in high-volume factories around the world.

  • Install and qualify process tools.

  • Audit installation and qualification of production tools at high-volume factories and supervise first full loop at the site.

  • Demonstrated technical problem-solving skills utilizing formal education, statistical knowledge, and problem-solving tools

  • Ability to be self-directed and show initiative when tasks are ambiguous

  • Proven organizational techniques to manage a workload consisting of multiple projects

  • Effective communication skills and ability to succinctly summarize data

  • Capability to successfully work on teams composed of individuals with differing levels of knowledge and expertise, working toward a common goal or outcome

You must possess the minimum qualifications outlined below to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.


Minimum Qualifications

You must possess either:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical electronics/mechanical field and 3+ years experience in the semiconductor or related industry -OR- Master's in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical electronics/mechanical field and 1+ years experience in the semiconductor or related industry

  • Successful candidates will be able to commence employment within 6 months of application.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in the semiconductor or a related industry

  • Technical communication/writing expertise

  • Experience operating/maintaining physical vapor deposition, chemical vapor deposition, atomic layer deposition, or epitaxial growth equipment
