Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Systems Engineering Research Division (SERD) is currently seeking a Decision Support Systems Engineer for a full-time research faculty position at our field office in Washington DC supporting research efforts that are conducted at our primary location in Smyrna, GA. This position supports the Department of Defense (DoD) in the effort to transition from document-based processes to model-based and data-driven processes across multiple functionalities.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Collaborate with the researchers in SERD for the design and implementation of decision systems addressing specific sponsor challenges including software development activity support
  • Provide subject matter expertise in analytical approaches to structuring data to support decision making
  • Conduct on-site sponsor support working with government subject matter experts to design and implement decision systems for systems that are fielded and in-development
  • Facilitate decision support systems utilization with DoD sponsors
  • Support current research projects and business development for securing additional DoD sponsored research efforts
  • Serve as a task and/or project lead for sponsored research programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
  • A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree; or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with one of the following frameworks:  Angular, React, Vue.js, Ember, Django, Flask, Ruby, Spring
  • Experience with a configuration management system (e.g. Git)
  • Active SECRET security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading small to mid-sized software development teams
  • Experience with JavaScript visualization libraries (e.g. d3)
  • Experience with the Atlassian software development support tool stack (e.g. JIRA, BitBucket, Confluence, Bamboo)
  • Active in the open source community (e.g. GitHub, BitBucket, Stack Overflow)

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
