Job Description

GTRI’s Co-operative Education (“co-op”) program offers you extensive opportunities to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state-of-the-art equipment and rapidly improve your technical and leadership skills. The program allows you to alternate three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school. 

Georgia Tech Research Institute's Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research (CIPHER) Laboratory seeks co-op students to assist in the design, development, and maintenance of relational databases which are the back-end to secure multi-tier web applications and services. This position requires the ability to design, architect, and build databases from business requirements – with a key focus of providing security, performance, and scalability at all layers of the architecture. This includes planning and deployment of these databases in both development and production environments. Position entails close interaction with application-layer software developers in order to optimize overall application design, including performance modeling and query generation, review, and optimization.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Co-op

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must be eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit with your university during work terms. First work term begins January 2020.
  • Must be able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing SQL queries
  • Willing to pursue advanced degree
  • Technical diagnostic expertise including problem investigation, reproduction, and resolution skills Ability to acquire new skills efficiently and apply them in a collaborative environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
