Job Description

ICL’s Trusted and Inter-operable Systems and Architecture Division is looking for a NoSQL Database Administrator with 5+ years of hands-on experience managing database operations preferably with a NoSQL database in a cloud environment. This position must be able to collaborate across teams including Enterprise Architecture, DevOps, Infrastructure, and Security to help elicit, design, and implement functional and non-functional database requirements. Must be able to lead the conversation and apply best practices with respect to database infrastructure, performance, capacity, backup, security, high-availability, and disaster recovery and steer the team to success. The ideal candidate would like to work in a cutting-edge research software development environment.

The primary work assignment would be as an information architect for Government projects serving the Justice, Public Safety, Health, and DOD Command and Control (C2) communities. Projects focus on secure sharing of information between state, local, and federal agency information systems, focusing on standards development and information sharing systems and tools. Each agency we work with is autonomous and has a unique architecture and legacy infrastructure. GTRI serves as the principal architect and integrator and provides technical guidance to numerous agencies and contractors.

The project is based in the Centergy Building at 75 Fifth Street NW Atlanta, on the Georgia Tech campus.

Job Duties

  • Support the design, sizing, and build of the MarkLogic Operational Data Store in multiple environments within an AWS cloud architecture
  • Design and perform automated build and upgrades of the database and integrate with DevOps continuous integration effort
  • Determine system storage requirements for the database
  • Design, implement, and enforce database security measures
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of the database
  • Support planning and implementation for backups, high-availability, and disaster recovery
  • Ensure compliance with database vendor license agreement
  • Support developing a plan to conduct database unit and system tests, monitors results, and take corrective action
  • Ensure compliance with the selected database standards
  • Participate in design and implementation of standards, tools and methodologies

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management of Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong NoSQL knowledge including administration, infrastructure, and deployment best practices
  • Strong cloud experience with database technologies, preferably AWS
  • Experience working as part of a data team on large matrixed projects
  • Experience designing database infrastructure for high-availability and performance in a mission critical system
  • Experience working closely with DevOps, Security and Operations in an agile environment
  • Experience on large integration projects
  • Strategic thinker with desire to be hands-on
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MarkLogic
  • Experience with Medicaid Management Information Systems, Health IT standards, policies, and best practices is a strong plus
  • Experience in building containerized applications
  • Experience with REST based microservices
  • Understanding of agile development CI/CD toolkit
