Job Description

The role of this position is to incorporate big data into the development of state-of-the-art data analysis tools and applications to enable users to identify and report insights. The position involves setting up pipelines to process, store, and retrieve complex data with an emphasis on efficiency for near real-time processing on a variety of technology platforms. The successful candidate will conduct sponsored research projects in close collaboration with other scientists and engineers. This position will primarily support sponsors located at Wright Patterson Air Force Base including the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) and the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) and is located at GTRI's growing Dayton, OH field office.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Physics or related area.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Master’s degree in Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Physics or related area and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Physics or related area- and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Physics or related area.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a strong subset of the following: SQL and NoSQL database development and querying; software development in C++, C#, Python, and/or Java; Linux familiarity.
  • DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Agile/Scrum software development practices and tools (e.g. Jira, Bitbucket/Git); numerical computation software (e.g. Numpy, MATLAB/Octave, R/S-Plus, LabView) for data processing and visualization; understanding of REST interfaces.
  • Possess problem investigation, reproduction, and resolution skills; the ability to acquire new skills efficiently and independently; and strong performance in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with a palate of the “big data” tools and concepts (e.g., Hadoop, Apache Spark, and MapReduce).
  • DoD Intelligence Analysis and Complex Data Analysis is helpful and highly desired. Database integration into web application development is desired.
  • DoD research experience (full-time or intern) is also a plus.
