Role Number:200229743

The Core OS software team is looking for an exceptional software engineering manager to lead kernel and runtime technologies for Apple's operating systems. This team is responsible for development and evolution of our kernel and low-level user space libraries like GCD, XPC, pthread, etc to contribute to the success of the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch, and Apple TV product lines. Core OS works with many teams across the company to provide a stable, fast, and high-quality foundation on which iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS frameworks and applications can be developed!

Key Qualifications

  • Experience leading a kernel or low-level systems software team
  • Direct experience with kernel or low-level systems software development
  • Deep understanding of operating system fundamentals
  • Deep and current understanding of the C programming language
  • Experience with UNIX systems
  • Proven track record of successful and timely product delivery
  • History of setting aggressive yet attainable goals, and motivating teams to achieve them
  • Evidence of driving technical innovation
  • Passion to dig in and lead the development of ground-breaking features and products
  • Strong communication skills, both inward and outward

Description

Leadership and management of a team of hardworking kernel and runtime engineers in a fast-paced and demanding development environment

Ownership of kernel and low-level libraries

Working with cross-functional teams to design, plan, and deliver high quality software features for our operating system

Creating and promoting a development environment that encourages innovation and sets high standards for quality and productivity

Identifying and mitigating risks in development activities

Strengthening the team by hiring and retaining top engineering talent

Education & Experience

B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Additional Requirements

  • Desired Skills & Experience
  • - Knowledge of hardware architecture and assembly language programming
  • - Cross-platform project development experience
  • - Knowledge of Swift, Objective-C, or C++
  • - Experience with scripting language
