Job Description

The Cybersecurity Systems Engineer will assist the Secure Computing Departments senior Cybersecurity Engineers with the following: Addressing enterprise-wide IT and cyber solutions; Conducting IT risk analysis and assessments; Interpreting cybersecurity standards and ensuring they are established and maintained for classified IT operations; Ensuring cybersecurity requirements are defined, systems are hardened, systems are analyzed, and test & evaluation of changes are conducted to ensure changes do not impact risk level.

Candidates must be motivated, proactive, and energetic with the ability to work with minimum supervision. We are seeking a quick learner with a good work ethic and an ability to work independently, develop requirements from meetings, identify implied tasks, and prioritize work for maximum benefit to the organization. Organization, time management, attention to detail, thoroughness, and decision-making independence are necessary.

Job Duties

Designs and develops new systems, applications, and solutions for internal customer's enterprise-wide cyber systems and networks. Perform vulnerability analysis of applications, operating systems or networks. Ensures system security needs established and maintained for operations development, security requirements definition, security risk assessment, systems analysis, systems design, security test and evaluation, systems hardening, vulnerability testing and scanning, incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning and provides analytical support for security policy development and analysis. Integrates new architectural features into existing infrastructures, designs cyber security architectural artifacts, provides architectural analysis of cybersecurity features and relates existing system to future needs and trends, provides engineering recommendations, and resolves integration and testing issues.

Additional job duties include:

  • Performs maintenance and troubleshooting in an enterprise classified Windows domain server environment.
  • Supports the formulation of project goals, objectives, scope, schedules and resource requirements.
  • Familiar with general application of technical principles, theories and concepts related to Windows environment and have general knowledge of other related IT disciplines.
  • Supports cybersecurity engineering for classified IT systems life-cycle.
  • Participates in system design.
  • Assists with crafting technical reports and other required documentation.
  • Interacts with users in addressing technical needs.
  • Other additional IT and associated duties as assigned.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • CompTIA Security+ and/or CISSP Certification
  • Ability to secure operating systems and applications in a STIG environment
  • Ability to learn and manage security tools such as McAfee ePO, McAfee VSE, ACAS/Nessus, SCAP Compliance Checker, Splunk, STIG Viewer, and other related products
  • Ability to interpret ACAS/Nessus scan results to remediate vulnerabilities
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot security infrastructure OS, applications, and devices
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and infrastructure technologies including Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, Hyper-V, and WSUS
  • Working knowledge of LAN and WAN network environments
  • Working knowledge of Dell Wyse Management Suite (WMS) thin client software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skill
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Active Secret Clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required
