Georgia Tech Research Institute's Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research (CIPHER) Laboratory is currently seeking someone with 1 to 5 years of experience whose primary skills are in the development, architecture, integration, and administration of enterprise solutions. In this role, the successful individual will understand the architecture, design, and development of software built for sponsors, which will run on secure cloud computing environments, with a focus on fully automated deployments. Experience with SELinux or Multi Level Security (MLS) concepts is a plus. Candidates must enjoy working with open source software and cutting edge technologies. Candidates must be able to learn new systems, technologies, and design concepts on the job, and will be expected to contribute to sponsored research projects. Candidates will be required to work as part of a distributed team with other scientists, engineers, and sponsors.

Job Duties

  • Translate business requirements into well-documented technical requirements
  • Develop Data Exchange specifications and data models.
  • Design and develop cloud based software solutions
  • Implements System Architecture design (compute, hardware/virtual, OS, storage, networking, security)
  • Contributor to the development of Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CICD) processes using DevOps and DevSecOps principles.
  • Implementer of Architecture as Code
  • Containers, Kubernetes, and Helm development
  • Linux, SELinux, and Ansible infrastructure maintenance
  • Virtual machine management.
  • Participate in Risk Management Framework for software development

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field of study. 

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's program relevant to this position will be considered.  Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December.
  • Candidates must have a Bachelors degree program relevant to this position to be considered
  • Candidates must have or be interested in obtaining a Master's degree
  • Candidates must thrive in collaborative environment
  • Candidates must have good written and communication skills
  • Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to independently and efficiently acquire new skills
  • Candidates must be able to investigate, reproduce, and resolve problems
  • Candidates must have experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or CentOS
  • Candidates must have implemented automation of system deployments using tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
  • Candidates must have experience coding within high-level languages, including Java, C, or Python

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
