It is expected that developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning are likely to disrupt the future workplace, displacing a number of workers in the process. However, according to two recent reports — "The VET Era" and "Growing Opportunities in the Fraser Coast" — STEM skills won’t be the only in-demand skills of the future workplace.

Because many routine occupations will eventually become automated, highly-skilled workers will be in greater demand as well as workers adept at communicating and those with social skills

Likewise, entrepreneurial and problem-solving skills will also be valuable.

Why these skills?

The reason that these particular skill sets will still be valuable in STEM-heavy occupations is due to the fact that these skills are not easy to replicate or automate. They will still be valuable despite the elevated status given to STEM skills.
