Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), the applied research arm of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) is seeking a qualified Computational Designer to conduct research in the areas of computational design, industrial systems, health data analytics, and systems modeling in the Intelligent Sustainable Technologies Division, ATAS Laboratory in Atlanta, GA. GTRI performs cutting-edge research for government and industry sponsors in the areas of system design and modeling, data analytics, and industrial engineering.

A Computational Building Designer is sought to perform innovative research in the areas of computational design, industrial systems, health analytics, and systems modeling, and the intersection of these disciplines for the delivery of integrated manufacturing solutions. Responsibilities include the development of systems models using a broad range of social, health, engineering, and environmental data for health applications. The data will be used to refine industrial engineering methods and to aid decision-makers in the technical and economic aspects of implementing scalable solutions. The job includes daily analytics and modeling research, preparing data sets for inclusion in systems models, developing work scopes for industrial sponsors, and presenting findings to health, engineering, and manufacturing professionals.

Job Duties

Daily job duties will include developing computational models and collaborating with colleagues on deliverables for industry and federal customers, reviewing complex data sets for inclusion in systems models, performing statistical analyses of health, environmental and engineering data, and preparing proposals, reports, and presentation materials for sponsors.

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Computational Building Design or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computational Building Design or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computational Building Design or a related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Design Computation or a related field of study
  • 5+ years of research experience using computational design and systems modeling methods for health and industrial applications
  • 3+ years of professional experience in the development of design solutions for health and spatiotemporal applications
  • Experience in the analyses of complex data sets for inclusion and the development of systems models
  • A track record of academic publications and development of deliverables
  • Experience in preparing statistical analyses for systems models
  • Strong industrial engineering and problem-solving skills
