We have an opening for a computational biologist/chemist with expertise in molecular modeling and simulations of the RAS protein. You will use existing tools in mechanistic modeling, pharmacology, molecular dynamics simulations, and quantum chemistry to design inhibitors to RAS.This position is in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.The work location for this assignment is Mission Bay, San Francisco, California.

Essential Duties
- Conduct advanced independent research to predict small molecule binding to RAS.
- Create virtual libraries and their descriptors for molecular screening.
- Perform and automate high throughput molecular dynamics simulations to predict protein function.
- Develop new analytics to analyze results from complex systems biology experiments and simulations.
- Work with experimentalist and understand experimental results in comparison to the computational results; work with external partners (Universities, Industry, other National Laboratories) to advance inhibitor design.
- Develop new and innovative research methods relevant to the needs of Laboratory programs and/or external funding agencies; write proposals, secure funding, and establish independent research projects; and interact with senior project staff and management to influence programmatic decisions.
- Prepare complex written analyses and verbal briefings, and present research results at national and international conferences as well as prepare complex and detailed monthly progress reports to support project needs and deadlines.
- Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences, seminars and/or technical meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- PhD in computer science, computational biology, computational physics or computational chemistry or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Significant experience at the postdoctoral or higher level in the field of molecular dynamics simulations of membrane proteins and membranes.
- Publication record in the fields of molecular simulations.
- Advanced computer skills including programming experience with perl, python or C++ in a UNIX environment.
- Ability to develop independent research projects as demonstrated through publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts.
- Ability to travel, as necessary, to interact with sponsors, customers and collaborators.
- Advanced written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deliver presentations, prepare written reports and to interact with a diverse set of scientists, engineers, and other technical and administrative staff.

Security Clearance: None required.
