Seeking a very talented and energetic individual to provide technical contributions and leadership for communications oriented work for our customers in the Tampa region as well as other customers that we support remotely.   In this role the ideal candidate will perform the following:
  • Lead and participate in high-impact, high-visibility work efforts (e.g., Red Teams, Independent Technical Assessments, Special Studies, and/or longer-term work assignments) that substantially inform key sponsor decisions and enable key sponsor outcomes.
  • Provide end-to-end systems engineering support across a dynamic and complex worldwide communications environment including the field segment, multiple transport segments, enterprise services segment, and base end (user) segment.
  • Support SATCOM terminal development, SATCOM link budget analysis, SATCOM test and evaluation, and SATCOM network analysis efforts to ensure new or enhanced capability development is synchronized across the enterprise.
  • Conduct satellite and RF systems engineering in support of capability development, testing, and operations. Develop link budgets, frequency management plans and key management plans.
  • Develop test plans and serve as independent test director during developmental and acceptance testing.
  • Provide systems engineering support to the sponsor for field sets that use radio frequency and satellite communications technologies.
  • In conjunction with Theater Special Operations Command (TSOC) resources, conduct requirements analysis of validated user requirements and provide technical support during field set development.
  • Act as primary interface to sponsor providing Systems Engineering and technical advisement
  • Provide technical advisement to support the development of CLANTECH Hub as well as validation, test and transition advice to operational status
  • Serve as a transition champion, ensuring technical solutions and recommendations are transitioned to solve critical sponsor problems
  • Set an example as a life-long learner, maintaining and enhancing skills and technical expertise, and tracking appropriate technology developments, both internal and external to the corporation
Required Skills
  • MS or PhD in electrical engineering, communications engineering, mathematics, or physics and 15 years of related experience
  • The candidate should have a broad working knowledge of communications technologies such as modulation and coding, radio frequency (RF) propagation and channel characteristics, and signal processing, and specific knowledge of some, or all, of the following technical areas:
    • Wireless communications technologies including recent developments in commercial wireless protocols and waveforms such as LTE and 5G
    • Software defined radios and cognitive radio techniques
    • Waveform Analysis and Design
    • Multicast routing protocols and IP networking
    • Satellite Communications (SATCOM)
    • RF Front End and Antenna design
    • Practical knowledge of communication and/or sensor systems
  • Experience in the design, integration and evaluation of prototype RF and mixed-signal subsystems used in communications or sensor systems is desired
  • Experience with performance tradeoffs between analog and digital functions is highly desired
  • Demonstrated standard for rigor, following the data where they lead (fierce objectivity), asking penetrating technical questions rather than accepting conventional wisdom or compelling rhetoric
  • Demonstrated ability to develop trusted relationships and work collaboratively across MITRE and sponsor organizations
  • Demonstrated track record of consistently delivering technical contributions of the highest quality that result in high-value, sometimes transformational, impact
  • Ability to navigate complex situations and sponsors as well as a high degree of comfort dealing with complex political and operational environments
  • Ability to Collaborate broadly with peers and stakeholders, internally within MITRE, as well as in the sponsor spaces and with industry and academic partners 
 
 
Preferred Skills 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including a demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a highly performing technical team
  • A sense of urgency to address current and emerging mission challenges
  • Detailed knowledge of the SOF community
  • Ability to quickly come up to speed on new technologies, acquisition programs, policies, and processes
  • Desire to collaborate across MITRE and leverage MITRE knowledge of operations, technology, policies and R&D
  • Experience with Clandestine Technologies, special communications
  • Deep expertise and knowledge of the Special Forces Community
