Job Description

The GTRI Robotics and Autonomous Systems Division is looking for a B.S. or M.S. (preferred) in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or related fields specializing in robotic algorithms software development. You will be joining a growing robotics division and responsibilities may include rapid prototyping and software engineering.

Job Duties

Tasks will include following a standardized build process, configuration management, simulations, and quality assurance. Duties will encompass research as well as development and integration of algorithms for robotics applications. The position will involve generation of research reports, publications, proposals, and briefs to customers requiring excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May, 2020
  • Extensive C/C++ and Python programming skills, follow software engineering best practices and have a strong mathematical foundation and problem solving skills. The candidate would have knowledge in one of the following:
    • ROS
    • Linux
    • Docker

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in integrating and deploying robotics algorithms for real-time operation on a robot in a real world environment is a plus
  • Proven research or software project experience in at least one of these areas is desirable:
    • Multi-robot collaboration
    • Path planning and navigation
    • Behavior based robotics
    • Optimal control and estimation
    • Machine learning for robotic control
    • Software engineering processes

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
