The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is responsible for the technical success of the research and engineering program of the Kostas Research Institute (KRI) and KRI at Northeastern University, LLC (KRI, LLC) on the Innovation Campus at Burlington, MA (ICBM) and across Northeastern University’s Global Network. Within the matrix structure of the KRI and KRI, LLC, the CTO has direct responsibility for the management and performance of the research scientists, research engineers, and technical staff of the KRI and KRI, LLC. The CTO also has responsibility for identifying NU faculty who have research capabilities that further the goals of KRI and can be incorporated programmatically into project working groups. The CTO reports to the Vice President of the Northeastern University ICBM and Chairman of the Board, KRI, LLC, David Luzzi (VP), and is a member of the leadership team of the ICBM (BLT). The CTO works in close collaboration with other members of the leadership team; the CEO of KRI, LLC, the Associate Vice President of Innovation Campus Programs, the Executive Director of DoD Programs, the ICBM Director of Administration, and the Director of Finance and Contracts. The CTO works with the VP and appropriate members of the BLT to win technical grants, contracts and gifts, execute technical programs, and deliver timely, outstanding results that build the KRI innovation enterprise and university reputation, impact, and scale in research and advanced development. S/he will work with strategic research partners – corporations, universities, research institutions, and government departments - to build and ensure Northeastern’s place as a world research leader in Security, Intelligence, and Innovation (SII).


Requirements

  • Ph.D.
  • At least ten years’ experience as an institute or department head/chair or Director of substantial technical programs
  • Experience working with departments and programs of the Intelligence and/or National Security Communities
  • Experience developing and launching new programs with an established reputation in defense programs, and the successful execution of these programs
  • Demonstrated track record of building and executing collaborative programs with internal and external entities
  • Ability to obtain Secret level security clearance required
  • Research experience including publication in the literature
  • Strong management skills
  • Ability to work with both Tenure-Track faculty and non-faculty researchers
  • Ability to travel domestically & internationally as needed
