Chairholder Industry 4.0 - Canada Research Chair (Tier 1)

Location: Montreal, Quebec

Date posted: November 25, 2019. Second posting

Located in Montreal, the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) www.etsmtl.ca, one of Canada’s largest engineering schools in Canada, currently seeks applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair faculty position in order to support Industry 4.0 (Smart manufacturing). Building upon existing graduate study programs, this initiative is aligned with a long-term strategy to invest in disciplines related to Industry 4.0 and identified in the ÉTS Strategic Research Plan.

ÉTS is looking for a talented individual who can excel in a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment. The candidate must have demonstrated strong leadership in high-level research, and the highest level of quality in teaching and in graduate student supervision.Exceptional researchers from around the world are encouraged to apply for this prestigious Chair. The Chairholder will benefit from a reduced teaching load.

The chosen candidate will be an exceptional researcher with a proven record of discovery and innovation. This individual will have demonstrated a clear ability to lead, manage and grow multi-institutional and multidisciplinary research collaborations. The candidate will be expected to develop a coherent research framework combining disciplines within the institution: robotics, materials and manufacturing processes, IoT (internet of things), cyber-security, big data, automation, and intelligent manufacturing and maintenance cells. The candidate will develop strong relationships with industrial, academic, and government partners.

ÉTS has developed one of Canada’s largest and most active innovative manufacturing research groups recognized for academic excellence, strong industry links and technology transfer. In 2018, ÉTS launched an Industry 4.0 innovation hub with more than 50 faculty members to develop training and programs that will prepare the next generation of highly skilled workforce in various industry sectors. Furthermore, ÉTS is one of eight Quebec universities that have set up the Innovation 4.0 Network, which aims to establish collaboration in research and development and the training of highly qualified workforce in Quebec. Faced with a growing need for organizations in terms of technological development and support in their digital shift, Innovation 4.0 Network members consider that there is a need to support the university mission in this area, in order to support and consolidate existing initiatives such as those of ADRIQ, CRIQ, IVADO, SCALEAI, NGen and ENCQOR. Thus, the candidate will benefit from numerous institutional and industrial partnerships to extend the scope of the Chair by funding specific projects that will go beyond the achievements of the Chair.

The CRC program was created in 2000 by the Government of Canada to foster world-class research and development. This program attracts talented people and scientists from around the world who will join outstanding researchers at ÉTS to carry out innovative work, thereby enhancing the institution's contribution to the country's growth, as well as its competitiveness on an international level. Potential candidates should consult the Canada Research Chairs website for full program information, including further details on eligibility criteria (www.Chairs-Chaires.gc.ca).

As part of the Université du Québec network, ÉTS is a fast-growing dynamic engineering school with a strong industry-oriented mindset. With its campus located in the Quartier de l’innovation (Innovation District), ÉTS provides a vibrant multicultural environment with strategic access to several major industrial and academic research partners.
