Job Summary

The College of Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology(Georgia Tech)and  theSchoolofMedicineatEmoryUniversityareseekingapplicationsfromqualifiedindividualsforthepositionofChairofTheWallaceH.CoulterDepartmentof Biomedical Engineering (BME). The Department is a joint department of both Georgia Tech and Emory Univ. Dean of the School of Medicine at Emory University.

The Chair has overall responsibility for the academic and research programs of BME, including all administrative, budgetary and personnel decisions. The Chairalsohassignificantresponsibilityforexternalaffairs,includingfundraising,community outreach and alumni and industry relations. Candidates for the position of Chair must have an earned doctoral degree and international recognition in his/her specific discipline(s), with a record of excellence in technical, academic andprofessionalachievements.TheChairisexpectedtoprovideacademicandadministrative leadership and maintain an active research program. CandidatesmusthavetheleadershipskillsandvisionnecessarytoadvancetheCoulterDepartmenttowardshigherlevelsofexcellence.Experienceinworkinginaninterdisciplinary engineering/medical environment is critical. Salary and benefits are      highly competitive. The Chair holds the $2.5M endowed Wallace H. Coulter Chair of Biomedical Engineering.

Department Description

TheDepartmenthasspaceandfacilitiesonbothcampuses,andoffersarangeof degree programs: a Bachelor’s degree in BME; Master’s degree in BiomedicalInnovationandDevelopment;interdisciplinaryPhDdegreesinBioengineering,Bioinformatics,ComputationalScience&Engineering,andRobotics;ajointPh.D. degree in BME that is awarded by Georgia Tech and Emory, and a Ph.D. degree in BME jointly awarded by Georgia Tech, Emory and Peking University inBeijing,China.Thegraduateandundergraduateprogramsarecurrentlyranked#2 by the U.S. News & World Report. The Departmentpresentlyhas40full-timeequivalentprimarytenured/tenure-trackfacultymembers,including9 endowed chairs. The Department has enrolled 1,300 undergraduates, 250 graduate students, with an annual research and operating budget of approximately $56.7 million. Research are as for the Coulter Department include biomaterials and regenerative technologies, biomedical imaging and instrumentation, biomedical informatics and systems modeling, biomedical robotics, cancer technologies, cardiovascular engineering, Engineering Education, immune engineering, and neuro engineering. Additional information can be found



Candidates for the position must have an earned doctoral degree in his/her specific discipline(s)with a record of excellence in technical, academic and professional achievements. Candidates must also be eligible for tenure at Georgia Tech and Emory University at the rank of Full Professor.
