Job Description

The Electronic Warfare Modeling and Analysis Division (EWMAD) of the Electro-Optical Systems Lab (EOSL) performs modeling, simulation, and analysis in support of Electronic Warfare, Electro-Optical Counter Measures, Physics and Missile Warning Systems, including aircraft self-protection, EO/IR and RF countermeasures, scene generation, laser warning, scattering, propagation and turbulence, and EO/IR and RF signature modeling.

The Electronic Warfare Analysis Branch (EWAB) within EWMAD specializes in the modeling, simulation and analysis of 1-on-1 to many-on-many, RF-based threat encounters, target tracking, and RF countermeasures for the Department of Defense (DoD). This job is a leadership position tasked with oversight over EWAB programs and researchers.

Job Duties:

The Branch Head for EWAB will be responsible for the following areas:

  • Performance appraisals for branch personnel
  • Performance improvement plans as needed for branch personnel
  • Mentoring branch members in technical and program development areas
  • Recruitment/Hiring/Termination

Project Execution:

  • Monitoring of tasks and programs executed with branch
  • Manpower planning for branch personnel, and tasks and programs originating within branch
  • Leadership of candidate's tasks/programs

Program Development:

  • Engagement with sponsor to understand their needs
  • Engagement with other branches, divisions and labs in execution of existing efforts
  • Engagement with other branches, divisions and labs in marketing of branch and division capabilities
  • Supporting tours and technical meetings with existing potential sponsors
  • Development of white-papers to support program development
  • Development of proposals


  • Coordination with other branch heads in project and administrative needs
  • Coordination with division head
  • Requests from upper management to include backlog/hiring/business development and other information
  • Preparation and support for Monthly Project Status Reviews (MPSRs)
  • Resolution of Computer Support Issues
  • Resolution of Research Security Issues

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related disciplineand seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical and computer engineering, computer science, physics, or a related discipline and 5 or more years of relevant work experience
  • Leadership of sponsored research projects and sponsor interactions
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, and analysis of RF systems
  • System knowledge of various modeling and simulation frameworks used within DoD

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with and knowledge of specific M&S frameworks / environments such as Suppressor, AFSIM, ESAMS, Brawler, Benchmark, SPAM
  • Background in radar, radar signal processing, tracking, and other related fields
