Job Description

The Sensors Intelligence and Visualization division (SIV) of the Electro-Optical Systems Lab (EOSL) develops and tests algorithms, software, and user interfaces in support of a broad range of sensing and sensor fusion applications. Our division performs algorithm development, modeling, simulation, analysis, as well as the communication of these results through traditional and non-traditional media such as augmented reality. The division primarily works in the support of Department of Defense with specialties in electronic warfare, novel soldier interfaces, EO/IR scene generation, armor active protection, smart cities and smart installations, light propagation and turbulence, and EO/IR and RF signature modeling.

  • For this Advanced Sensor Algorithm Branch (ASAB) chief position, we are seeking candidates willing to grow and develop our capabilities in both model based and machine learned sensor-based algorithms.
  • Candidates should have strong technical credentials
  • A willingness to mentor junior engineers and new hires
    Strong entrepreneurial drive to shape the strategy of the branch and take responsibility for its growth.

JOB Duties

The ASAB chief will be responsible for the following areas:


  • Performance appraisals for branch personnel
  • Performance improvement plans as needed for branch personnel
  • Mentoring branch members in technical and program development areas
  • Recruitment/Hiring/Termination

Project Execution:

  • Monitoring of tasks and programs executed with branch
  • Manpower planning for branch personnel, and tasks and programs originating within branch
  • Leadership of candidate's tasks/programs

Program Development:

  • Engagement with sponsor to understand their needs
  • Engagement with other branches, divisions and labs in execution of existing efforts
  • Engagement with other branches, divisions and labs in marketing of branch and division capabilities
  • Supporting tours and technical meetings with existing potential sponsors
  • Development of white-papers to support program development
  • Development of proposals


  • Coordination with other branch heads in project and administrative needs
  • Coordination with division head
  • Requests from upper management to include backlog/hiring/business development and other information
  • Preparation and support for Monthly Project Status Reviews (MPSRs)
  • Resolution of Computer Support Issues
  • Resolution of Research Security Issues

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in physics, electrical and computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in physics, electrical and computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in physics, electrical and computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline .

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Familiarity with tracking, multi-hypothesis tracking (MHT), and fusion
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Modeling and Simulation (M&S)
  • The ability to write software to model various RF and EW systems
  • Familiarity with program languages, especially C, C++, and Python
  • Proficiency with machine learning
  • Familiarity with Linux and open source tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with simulations similar to Brawler
  • Familiarity with FORTRAN
  • Experience with C, C++, and Python computer language
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Experience using configuration management tools
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to non-technical audience
