As part of the Battery Engineering group, we are looking for a Materials Engineer who will be responsible for supporting new material technology development, with deep materials and chemistry experience in the production of rechargeable batteries. This role also involves working closely with internal cross-functional teams, external vendors and technology partners on application development from material development to production introduction and quality control.
Key Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience leading polymer-related battery chemistry in industry
- Must have a background in coating slurry or ink formulation, coating and mixing process, battery fabrication, testing polymers and rechargeable batteries
- Experience working with subcontractors on material development and process engineering
- Experience in quality control of external vendors
- Good foundation in polymer structure-property relationship, inorganic-polymer composite design and processing, solvent interaction on a variety of polymer classes and electrochemistry
- Experience in separators, binders and composites is a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication and teamwork skills
- Attention to details, ability to work well individually and in team setting
DescriptionDevelop inorganic-organic composite formulation and coating processes
Develop film characterization techniques for metrology and inspection
Work closely with material vendors and manufacturing partners for material and coating development
Prepare project updates and goals, travel abroad to suppliers and manufacturing sites
Work closely with test teams and operation teams on developing critical to quality (CTQ) metrics, root cause analysis and corrective actions (FACA), vendor audit and quality control
Work closely with cell line engineers to implement new technology to cell design
Education & Experience
PhD degree in Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry/Chemical Engineering, or related field
