Job Description

The Applied Systems Laboratory (ASL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) seeks a Ballistic Missile Defense Software Development Manager to fill a position for the Data Analytics Branch within the Air and Missile Defense Systems Division. The successful candidate will lead a team of software engineering researchers responsible for technical research and innovation within the branch's core competency. The candidate will work in a team environment with Ballistic Missile Defense Systems (BMDS) software developers and analysts to develop software requirements and coordinate software development in a rapid prototyping environment. A proven track record utilizing current software development practices and processes is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Participation as a member of the team to rapidly prototype BMDS analysis software
  • Daily management of a team of software engineering professionals
  • Elicitation and management of software requirements and management of the full lifecycle software process
  • Management of customer relationships, including communicating team resource needs
  • Engagement with the sponsor to secure initial/ongoing funding for contract tasks

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Engineering Management.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Engineering Management and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Engineering Management and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Engineering Management.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years prior experience in architecture development and software engineering
  • 5+ years' experience managing a cross-functional team of software developers and engineers
  • Experience in engineering management with a thorough knowledge of engineering processes
  • Experience with Agile software development methodology
  • Knowledge and ability to decompose system requirements into software requirements; provide technical and guidance to lower-level technical personnel as necessary
  • Strong leadership qualities with proven interpersonal and team working skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints
  • Experience in software development methodologies and structured approaches to software development
  • Ability to present technical information to sponsors and potential customers
  • Experience with software requirements definition and documentation
  • Experience with task scheduling and resource management
  • Experience with configuration and change management processes and tools
  • Ability to coordinate technical reviews, including content
  • A self-motivated go-getter who will overcome obstacles and follow tasks to completion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scrum Master training/experience
  • C# development experience using .NET and .Net Core with Microsoft Visual Studio
  • SQL database experience, including query development and optimization.
  • Experience performing trade studies or other comparisons of software techniques/toolsets to support architecture decisions
  • Knowledge of BMDS processes, procedures, analysis, and architectures
  • Exposure to a wide variety of current programming technologies/tool suites
  • Experience mining big-data and utilizing data analytics techniques
  • Experience using Tableau for data visualization and analysis
  • Availability and ability to travel
