The Apple Acoustics Team is looking for a candidate who understands audio silicon architecture and will drive audio silicon requirements, architectures, and roadmaps for audio-related power amplifiers, data converters, digital interfaces, and power conversion.

A successful candidate will have strong technical fundamentals covering transistor and system-level design, audio system building blocks like amplifiers, ADC/DACs, power conversion, and audio digital interfaces.

In addition to technical fundamentals, the candidate will possess a strong system understanding and use both detailed system and silicon knowledge to craft requirements for new audio silicon projects. The candidate will be asked to make engineering contributions to enable industry-leading audio system performance as seen in Apple's products.

Key Qualifications

  • Strong analog circuit design fundamentals like:
  • CMOS & bipolar transistor operation, amplifier topologies: common source, common gate, common drain, current mirrors/sources, biasing techniques, reference generators, transistor level op-amp design, compensation & tradeoffs, analog filters, bode plots & pole zero analysis
  • Background in audio amplifiers (class D, G, AB), ADC/DACs & power conversion (buck, boost)
  • Solid understanding of common audio & control digital interfaces: I2S/TDM, PDM, SoundWire, SPDIF & I2C
  • Familiar with audio system architectures for consumer electronic products such as computers, tablets, phones, and ear buds.
  • Experience in writing audio IC requirements at the macro or block level
  • Familiar with audio silicon measurement methods
  • Modeling and trade-off analysis using tools such as SPICE and MATLAB
  • Ability to communicate findings and ideas to other teams or experts in other disciplines
  • Ability to effectively contribute in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment

Description

As part of Apple's Acoustics Team, the candidate will have responsibilities that include:
Specification of audio power amplifiers, data converters, digital interfaces, and power conversion with an agile ability to understand trade-offs between power consumption, performance, area, and system integration flexibility
Communication with and oversight of audio silicon suppliers including IC development activities and processes, IP, and product roadmaps
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the relevant strengths and weaknesses of companies

Education & Experience

Most of our engineers have advanced degrees in electrical engineering or an equivalent field, but if you've followed a different path to expertise in audio silicon architecture, we still want to hear from you.
