Job Description

Neuromorphic Computing Lab's silicon implementation team is looking for a talented design researcher with hands-on experience spanning logic and physical design. This team applies novel design methodologies to implement Intel Labs' neural-inspired neuromorphic research chips. In support of that charter, the team develops and studies state-of-the-art design/validation tool flows for self-timed/asynchronous design.

As part of a prototyping-oriented research team, you will participate in many aspects of chip development, from front-end design entry to back-end layout automation and implementation. Design entry methodologies will include both conventional synchronous RTL as well as novel asynchronous and agile approaches using CAST, Chisel, and other emerging HDLs. You will use (and even develop) a variety of ASIC tool flows to design, floor-plan and eventually close design partitions for tape-in.


You must possess the below requirements to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The candidate must possess a PhD degree in Electrical Engineer or Computer Science
  • 2+ years of hands-on design/physical-design experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with the physical design process (defining floor-plans and timing constraints, debugging and solving timing closure, DRC and lVS cleanup).
  • 2+ years of experience in place and route and timing verification.
  • 2+ years of experience with scripting languages such as Perl, TCL, Python, etc.
  • Experience in asynchronous architectures and circuits.
  • Expertise in Verilog and at least one high-level HDL (e.g. SystemC, Chisel, CAST).
  • Strong understanding of all levels of hardware design, from architecture to circuits to chip-level floor-planning and layout implementation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • EDA/CAD software development using object-oriented programming languages like Java or C++
