The Global 30 International Program of Nagoya University Automotive Engineering Program seeks to fill a full-time, non-tenure-track position at the level of Associate Professor. The successful candidate will work in the Graduate School of Engineering. She/He will teach no more than 8 courses per year (8 ‘komas’ per year*) including possible evening and weekend courses. As a full-time faculty, she/he will be expected to hold office hours, provide academic advising for students and perform the normal duties associated with this program. (*In Japan one course or ‘koma’ is equivalent to one 90 minute lecture per week for 15 weeks)

  2. Full curriculum vitae – please include country of citizenship, university graduation date.
  3. Copies of graduate transcripts (unofficial copies acceptable for the application process)

Two letters of professional recommendation – written within a year of this application – with the referee’s Name, Title, Name of Organization, Length and Relationship with Applicant, and Contact Details included (note: we will conduct reference checks for candidates who clear the initial screening)

    At least one addressing teaching abilities

  5. One page statement of teaching philosophy, addressing the applicant’s ability to integrate creative thinking and global perspectives into the courses taught
  6. List of all publications and copies of up to five
  7. Evidence of teaching excellence, such as any of the following items (if applicable):
    a)      
    Copies of past course syllabi – from at least two different courses – prepared and used by the applicant illustrating his/her teaching philosophy
    b)     
    DVD of the applicant’s teaching
    c)      
    Student evaluation forms and summaries from at least two different courses
    d)     
    Student letters
    e)      
    Public commendations, prizes, and other awards for teaching excellence
  8. Current areas of research (if applicable)
  9. Evidence of English ability, such as score of TOEFL, TOEIC, Eiken (if applicable)
  10. USB memory stick containing the data of 1)-9). PDF format is preferable except for 7)-b).

Required Qualifications

  1. Teaching experience in mechanical, electrical, or automotive engineering
  2. Demonstrated ability to teach students at both undergraduate and graduate levels
  3. Willingness to participate widely in the International Programs of the university including but not limited to teaching courses to Japanese students and administrative duties
  4. Strong inter-personal skills and evidence of effective interaction with students, faculty, administration, and the local community
  5. English fluency sufficient to effectively teach the above course
  6. Doctoral degree in automotive engineering or a related field, or equivalent ability to a person with the doctoral degree

 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience working in a multicultural environment preferred
  2. Japanese language proficiency is welcomed though not required
  3. Research and development experience in automobile industry

 

Nagoya University seeks individuals with demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, with an interest in teaching introductory courses to international students from all over the world in Japan.

The initial contract will start April 1, 2022 and terminate March 31, 2027.

Contingent upon job performance and funding of the Global 30 International Program, the contract may be renewable for an additional 5-year term.
Salary: JPY 5,000,000 – 9,000,000/year (all inclusive*)
Salary will depend on qualifications and experience, based on Nagoya University’s Salary Rules for Employees to whom the Annual Salary System applies. *Taxes and insurances will be withheld from the annual salary.
Holding of concurrent positions and/or jobs: As a general rule Nagoya University does not permit full-time faculty working in the Global 30 International Programs to hold additional positions and/or jobs with other institutions.
