This opportunity is with our Cyber Security, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research Lab (CIPHER) Cyber Security, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research Lab (CIPHER). CIPHER conducts applied research focused on cyber threats and countermeasures, secure multi-level information sharing, resilient command and control network architectures, reverse engineering, vulnerability identification, and high performance computing and analytics. CIPHER engineers develop and apply cutting edge technologies in computing, network architectures, signal and protocol analysis, network forensics, malware analysis, and reverse engineering (hardware and software) to solve the tough problems. GTRI-CIPHER is seeking an Associate IT Director for the CIPHER internal Information Technology team. The CIPHER IT team supports over 300 researchers, engineers, and support staff tackling complex and novel IT challenges for commercial and government customers. The CIPHER IT team is distributed across multiple campus buildings in Atlanta, two field offices, and a sizable base of remote users across the United States. The candidate will work closely with the CIPHER IT Director, the Operations Branch Head, the Secure Support Branch Head, and the IT Architecture & Infrastructure Branch Head to facilitate and improve IT services and offerings to the CIPHER Lab. Outside of internal operations, the Associate IT Director is expected to actively participate in sponsored research programs across the lab above and beyond providing technology support. Many of GTRI-CIPHERs programs require sophisticated information technology platforms and, as such, the Associate IT Director will be required to hold a Department of Defense Secret clearance

Job Duties

  • Partner with CIPHER Lab leadership to ensure their IT needs are met
  • Oversee a portion of the IT departmental services/systems offered
  • Oversee a portion of the operational activities of the department
  • Manage personnel including hiring, performance evaluations, staffing, career development, etc.
  • Assist with the management of department budgets, procurement, asset management and resources
  • Assist with the management and compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Develop collaborations and relationships with other GTRI labs/departments, GT-OIT, and outside organizations
  • Mentor department personnel
  • Review & prioritize implementation of new technology solutions & services
  • Project management of large departmental projects
  • Actively promote the creative use of technology to improve productivity and customer service.
  • Respond in an effective and timely manner to information system requests for support as escalated by divisions within CIPHER and/or end-users.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Business, or related discipline.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Business, or related discipline and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Business, or related discipline and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Business, or related discipline.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in information technology, information systems, computer science or related field (graduate degree a plus)
  • Minimum eight years experience working in IT
  • Minimum three years experience managing or leading personnel
  • Minimum three years experience overseeing IT teams and projects

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
