Job Description

The Associate Division Chief in the Test Engineering Division (TEN) will support the Division Chief in developing, measuring, and achieving performance metrics in line with Lab and Division's strategic organizational and research goals. The Associate Division Chief assists the Division Chief in providing management and technical oversight for sponsored research, supervising 90-100 full-time research faculty and approximately 40-50 students across 8 branches. Additionally, the Associate Division Chief is responsible for coordinating with the Division Chief and Lab leadership on operational activities, including providing monthly performance status reports, staff planning and assignments, oversight of sponsored research projects, and business development activities.


The Test Engineering Division conducts applied research in Test and Evaluation (T&E) of Electronic Warfare (EW) and avionics systems. Primary research areas include developing complex hardware and software systems to enable open-loop and closed-loop testing of EW systems in the laboratory, developing automated test tools, RF and EO/IR threat environment generation, and toolsets to enable EW and avionics test data analysis.

Job Duties

  • Develop, execute, and sustain strategic plans to promote and enhance TEN sponsored project portfolios and technical capabilities
  • Train and mentor division members (including research faculty and undergraduate and graduate students) to develop expertise in multiple engineering disciplines, conduct and publish novel research activities, and identify professional development and training opportunities
  • Assist Division Chief with business development activities, support sponsor engagement, showcase division capabilities to internal and external organizations, and support sponsor tours, visits, and technical meetings
    Write proposals and white papers for sustained division growth
  • Assist the Division Chief with administrative actions including the recruitment, hiring, and termination of division personnel, execution of performance appraisals, development and execution of performance improvement plans, review and approval of employee timesheets, and development and submission of purchase requests
  • Assist Division Chief and Lab Director with facilities management, office assignments, lab allocations, and equipment/modernization decisions
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

  • A Bachelors and Masters degree required, with one or both in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Bachelors and Masters degree required, with one or both in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree. and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree and Masters degree required, with one or both in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

  • A Bachelors and Masters degree required, with one or both in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree. and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience, or
  • A Doctoral degree and Masters degree required, with one or both in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years in project and/or program management, including task or project leadership with budgetary authority
  • Experience in EW or related T&E areas

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in GTRI organizational management
  • Expert level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, JIRA, Confluence, and Box
  • Experience writing white papers and/or proposals
  • Experience authoring and delivering technical briefings to technical and non-technical audiences, including senior executives
  • Active Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
