Job Description:
We are currently hiring a Senior Manager Mechanical Engineering to join the Energetics and Propulsion Department of the Mechanical Products Team in Tucson, AZ. This position is to support the newly awarded Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) program as the Divert and Attitude Control Systems (DACS) Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL).

The DACS IPTL is responsible to provide leadership for the team for all DACS Non-Recurring and Recurring tasks to ensure delivery of the propulsion system per program plan. The IPT structure will be determined by the Lead, who will also manage the prime DAC supplier, Aerojet Rocketdyne, in both technical and cost/schedule parameters. The role requires a high level of execution expertise coupled with the ability to lead a high visibility development program and manage a critical supplier.
Responsibilities also include, but are not limited to:
  • Cost and schedule responsivities for the IPT and Sub-IPTs, as well as the prime supplier. Report business metrics to both the program and functional leadership.
  • Ability to communicate both to the RMD leadership to provide program status, accomplishments, issues, and help needed, while influencing the Sub-IPTs to ensure program alignment and teamwork.
  • Manage the development maturation of the NGI DACS emerging technology to deliver a production ready design, within a challenging schedule and system.
  • Provide program leadership, not line management, to the Sub-IPTs and many collaborative partners from Engineering, Operations, Mission Assurance, and Global Supply Chain.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to all team members.
  • Extensive experience in task leadership and knowledge of advanced propulsion technologies, including design, performance, and production of a propulsion solution.
This position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 12 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience in Propulsion system development and production
  • Experience with Missile Defense Agency customers and/or associated contractor executives and technical leadership
  • Experience managing hardware and/or software engineers
  • Experience using program management tools such as Earned Value Management System (EVMS), Integrated Master Plan (IMP) / Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and Risk and Opportunity Management to identify issues and develop recommended courses of action to management
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Active Secret Clearance (Department of Defense)
  • Bachelors Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) or related field

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with leading development and maintenance across multiple program sites
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability as an Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL) able to drive design and development across the hardware, software and test organizations
  • Cost Account Manager or Earned Value experience
  • Program Management certification or experience
  • Experience with Scrum at Scale
  • Excellent presentation and proposal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
