Job Description
The Electrical Products Team (EPT) directorate with the RMD Engineering team is seeking an engineering leader with knowledge of EO (Electro-Optics) Seeker component design and development including Optics, Opto-Mechanical, Cryogenics and Detectors for EO products. To qualify for this role, you must possess a broad range of skills: a combination of leadership and communication skills. In addition to Electro-optics development experience, Effector programs electronics knowledge, knowledge of earned-value project management experience and the ability to develop future leaders and technical resources.
Position Summary:
The Department Leader (DL) for the Electro-Optics Products (EOP) Dept. is responsible for the results and effectiveness of this department. Performs all functional manager responsibilities including performance development, goal planning, disciplinary actions, mentoring, career development, execution of RMD and IPT organization initiatives, and managing of department expenses, accountable for cost, technical support, schedule, and meeting program goals. Ensures that members of the dept. support product design activities in accordance with established RMD engineering design practices, interact with cross-functional teams, partners with the following external functional areas: Supply Chain Management (SCM), Electrical-Optical Systems Production & Assembly (EOSPA), 809 Space Operations Team and all pertinent engineering disciplines. Supports leadership alignment to define and achieve the strategic vision for the EOP and EPT organization. The department is comprised of approximately 135 electrical, mechanical and systems engineers and technicians.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
  • Provide guidance, coaching and leadership to Section Leads, Chief Engineers, REAs and IPTLs within the dept. to ensure effective communications and program execution
  • Responsible for reviewing proposals, utilization of EVMS techniques (EACs, LREs, IMS) to manage programs
  • Provide engineering oversight to programs supported by the dept. through the planning and leadership of project design reviews and peer reviews, including technical briefings to internal leadership and external customers
  • Ensure appropriate employee development through effective performance management including goal setting, career planning and the performance development cycle
  • Responsible for leading his dept. leadership team SLs) through rating sessions, employee training and developmental task assignments

This position requires a current Secret U.S. Security Clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Required Experience and Skills:
  • 12+ years of engineering experience to include leadership roles with strong technical and management background
  • Technical excellence in one or more of the following areas: Component Hardware Design, Optical. Opto-Mechanical, Cryogenic and IR Detectors
  • Knowledge of Electro-Optics product development to include one or more of the following: factory process knowledge, production environments, Supply Chain Management and key personnel management
  • Knowledge of EVMS, development of budgets, task planning milestone development, and budget management
  • Proven background in design compliance during design/development and production
  • Experience utilizing process tasks/tools such as project and program planning
  • Proven experience in balancing engineering process discipline and innovation for rapid development and program success
  • Must currently have a DoD issued Secret Security Clearance
  • STEM related degree - BS in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related engineering degree

  • Advanced degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, or related engineering degree
  • Expert knowledge and experience leading a multi-disciplined department
  • Strong systems engineering thought process with good analytical skills
  • Able to network/influence outside EO Dept. with other design organizations such as GSC, other Engineering disciplines and Manufacturing
  • Ability to effectively work multiple tasks and priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ownership of and strategist for EO Supply base for RMD Tech Council and Corporate SEAC team
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with peers, suppliers, management, and customers in a team environment
