Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Test Engineering Division (TEN) is currently seeking an Associate Branch Head for the FMS Engineering Branch (FEB). FEB researches Integrated Electronic Warfare (IEW) systems in support of the US Air Force in Foreign Military Sales (FMS) applications. Our IEW research aims to integrate the function of on-aircraft federated EW systems, avionics and data links, to provide better overall aircraft self-protection suite performance, improved pilot situational awareness and embedded training function.

The Associate Branch Head supports the Branch Head in providing management and technical oversight for sponsored research, supervising the activities of 10 full-time research faculty and approximately 4-6 students. Additionally, the position supports the Branch Head in coordinating with laboratory leadership on operational activities which include providing monthly performance status reports, staff planning and assignments, oversight of sponsored research projects, and business development activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Design, coordinate, and implement FMS IEW research based on sponsor requirements
  • Provide oversight of active programs within the branch to include monitoring finances, schedule and scope
  • Train and mentor branch members including research faculty and both undergraduate and graduate students to develop expertise in research areas and facilitate publication of novel research activities
  • Direct business development activities to include sponsor engagement and promoting branch capabilities to internal units and external organizations
  • Develop proposals and white papers for sustained branch growth
  • Support the branch head conducting administrative actions including the recruitment, hiring and termination of branch personnel, execution of performance appraisals, development and execution of performance improvement plans, review and approval of employee time sheets and development and submission of purchase requests
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and four (4) years of relevant full time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in system design, development, testing and/or analysis
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading small/mid-sized tasks and/or teams
  • Experience developing human interfacing systems for military/commercial applications
  • Experience with government and commercial contract development
  • Active SECRET clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
