RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Teach and develop, as necessary, courses offered by the physics department
  • Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs.
  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field and enhance teaching abilities.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
  • Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.
  • Support Winona State University's mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve. Provide service to the university and community including the program, department, college, university and greater community.
  • Assist with programmatic accreditation
  • Develop, conduct, and supervise engineering design projects and research activities with undergraduates.
  • Assist in recruiting students to the university and to the physics department.

Requirements

Minimum:

  • Earned doctorate in physics, engineering, or a closely related field with an anticipated completion date by August 2020
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching
  • Significant experience designing and building electronics applicable to experimental physics or engineering design projects, at the undergraduate level.

Preferred:

  • Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.
    • o   Experience in computer programing and/or software applications suitable for the development of electronics and/or analysis of data in experimental physics or engineering design projects
    • Evidence of effective oral and written English communication skills
    • Evidence of Teaching Effectiveness, including but not limited to the following:   
      • o   Experience implementing a variety of science/engineering teaching methods
      • o   Evidence of ability to teach a range of undergraduate physics courses
      • o   Experience teaching electronics and/or electrical engineering courses
    • Evidence of Scholarly Activity, including but not limited to the following: 
      • o   Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience
      • o   Publications, presentations, and/or patents
      • o   Setting up a research lab
      • o   Grants
    • Evidence of Continued Preparation, including but not limited to the following: 
      • o   Experience with accreditation
      • o   Knowledge of best practices in science/engineering education
    • Evidence of Contribution to Student Growth, including but not limited to the following: 
      • o   Experience mentoring student research and design projects
    • Evidence of Service, including but not limited to the following: 
      • o   Experience with public science/engineering outreach

Experience with secondary science/engineering education programs, e.g. First Robotics, Project Lead the Way, Makerspace, etc.
