The Position:
The Department of Natural Sciences, Engineering, and Technology at Point Park University invites applications from accomplished, versatile, and enthusiastic engineering practitioners for a unique tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level. This position will support both a new bachelor of science program in electrical engineering and an established graduate program in engineering management. The successful candidate must be available to join the department for the spring 2019 or fall 2019 term.

The primary duty of this position is developing and delivering lecture and laboratory courses in the electrical engineering program, which enrolled its first students in the fall of 2016. Although candidates with a variety of interests will be considered, the areas of greatest instructional need are electric machines, power systems, and power electronics. The ideal candidate will possess the versatility to teach in multiple areas of electrical engineering and additionally to teach in the mathematics, physics, and engineering management programs on a limited basis.

Additional duties of this position include advising students, participating in institutional service and governance, engaging in professional development (including research in the content and pedagogy of engineering), and furthering connections between the program and its external constituents. An essential component of institutional service is a commitment to outcomes-based education and participation in assessment of student learning according to ABET standards and practices.

The successful candidate will possess demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively in oral, written, and digital forms. He or she must additionally possess the interpersonal skills to engage students from a variety of social and educational backgrounds in classroom and laboratory settings. Point Park University prides itself on maintaining small class sizes and close instructor-student contact throughout the curriculum, and all faculty are expected to support these values. Because the University serves a large adult student population, courses are typically offered on an evening and weekend schedule, and the successful candidate must be available to teach at these times.

Applicants must hold an earned doctoral degree in electrical engineering or a closely-related area. A substantive record of accomplishment in engineering is critical, with college-level teaching experience a plus. The successful candidate must be licensed as a professional engineer in at least one jurisdiction in the U.S.A. or Canada or be willing to pursue licensure in a timely manner after joining the faculty.

Application Procedure:
Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and at least three letters of recommendation to Dr. Gregg Johnson, Chair, Natural Sciences, Engineering, and Technology department. Electronic submission of materials in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) or Microsoft Word (.docx) form is required and should be sent to artsandsciences@pointpark.edu. Please note that the subject line of the email should state the position for which you are applying. Applications must be received by August 31, 2018. No phone calls please. Due to the high volume of resumes received, Point Park University will not be able to respond to inquiries regarding the status of your resume.

Applicants must have authorization to work in the United States and not require employer sponsorship.

Point Park University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
