Assistant/Associate Professor of Computer Science

Penn State Brandywine invites applications for an advanced Assistant or Associate tenure-line faculty position, to be Professor in Charge of a Computer Science Program shared with the Beaver and Hazleton campuses, to begin August 2022 (or as negotiated). The faculty's home campus will be Brandywine.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as Professor in Charge of a Computer Science Program consortium, across Brandywine, Beaver and Hazleton campuses,
  • Teach (at most) 9 credit/contact hours each semester, of lower and upper division courses using traditional, hybrid, and on-line delivery methods
  • Publish research in refereed journals, participating in professional organizations engaging in scholarly activities to stay current in the discipline
  • Participate in course, curriculum, and program development, advising students, providing career guidance, and supervising undergraduate research projects
  • Participate in campus, University, and community service activities



Some of the required teaching is in introductory and intermediate undergraduate courses in the area of computer science and computer engineering using traditional, hybrid and online delivery methods. Teaching assignments might include courses in object-oriented programming, systems programming, computer organization and design, theory of computation, operating systems design, programming languages, and electives in the instructor's area of expertise.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Computer Science/Computer Engineering, or closely related fields. Evidence of research and publications in the area of artificial intelligence or a closely related field is expected. This position will be filled as either an Assistant or Associate Professor. To be considered as an Assistant Professor rank, a candidate must have at least three years of Assistant Professor experience.

Other expectations: Include commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment; advocacy for diversity and values of inclusion. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or weekend classes as needed.

Additional preferences include: Evidence of commitment to and interest in active and collaborative learning, instructional use of technology, experience in hybrid course delivery, evidence of experience in multidisciplinary environment, demonstrated commitment to and ability/training in successfully advocating for diversity and values of diversity.
