The Apple Archive collects, preserves, and makes accessible within Apple significant artifacts from the company's past in order to illuminate Apple's history and culture; promote employee learning; and serve corporate needs. The collection includes analog and digital assets in multiple formats spanning all of Apple's history, functions, and businesses!

The Apple Archive is seeking an experienced archivist to work closely with the Head Archivist and Apple University content producers to manage multiple multi-faceted projects, often under tight timelines, to meet foundational archiving objectives like artifact preservation, cataloging, tagging, and research. In this role, you will also assist in uncovering and disseminating within Apple stories behind the collection's artifacts.

In addition to the defined responsibilities, the successful candidate will possess the insight, initiative, and flexibility to recognize and pursue unforeseen project-related needs and opportunities.

Key Qualifications

  • Background working in information management, libraries, archives, or museums
  • Experience working with digital asset management or similar content-management systems
  • Familiarity with Apple's products, people, history, and culture
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Passion for leading projects from start to finish, with a high level of independence and little hand-holding
  • Willingness to be part of a small, flexible, collaborative team without fixed, formal roles
  • Comfort with ambiguity, unpredictability, on-the-fly adjustments, and "building the plane in flight"
  • Experience with or training in library and archiving standards and metadata schemas such as DACS and Dublin Core, along with the flexibility to tailor these standards to specific user and corporate needs
  • Familiarity with preservation best-practices, digital and analog
  • Experience responding to time-sensitive reference requests
  • Experience and/or interest in enhancing digital-asset or collection-management systems
  • Journalism, history, or oral-history background

Description

Own the output and quality of digital collection, including mixed-media formats (video, images, and born-digital data)

Screen documents for sensitive or copyrighted materials and take steps to establish appropriate permissions

Assist in enhancing internal database, including but not limited to pairing analog and digital assets, and maintaining integrity of metadata, taxonomy, and organization

Respond to requests, sometimes urgent, by Apple businesses and teams for in-depth research support on a wide variety of topics

Conduct archival-database training for teams across the company

Assist Head Archivist in planning and implementing digital-preservation best practices

Help prepare and ship acquisitions (analog and digital)

Identify, research, and assist in the creation of works (videos, articles, case studies, etc.) that showcase and demonstrate the collection's rich content for the Apple community

Track user metrics and outcomes across projects

Education & Experience

Masters of Library and Information Science degree or coursework, or comparable field of study
