Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) System Engineering Division (SEN) is currently seeking an Applied Systems Engineer for a full time research faculty position to work on open standards projects in the Open Systems Development Branch (OSDB) located at our field office in Dayton, OH. This position supports development and implementation of modular open architectures for avionics systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
• Define, analyze, and review system & software requirements to meet defined and anticipated sponsor needs
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines in planning, design, and development of systems to ensure software and hardware performance and compatibility
• Design software architecture interfaces ensuring functionality by using a model-based approach
• Write test plans, test cases as well as conduct unit, integration, and system-level testing
• Specify systems, system components, and coordinate with industry collaborators to determine best end item designs for given requirements
• Serve as technical expert on assigned projects and systems to include latest industry standards, system interfaces, engineering tools, and road maps for current and future updates
• Participate in technical meetings with sponsors and industry collaborators
• Develop technical papers for conferences and present briefings to potential sponsors
• Support development of modular open architecture based hardware, software,and systems standards
• Perform other duties as assigned

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

• A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
• A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree; or
• A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

• A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
• A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Experience developing complex avionics systems using system engineering processes and methodologies
• Experience creating and conducting technical presentations
• Minimum 4 years of applicable experience in a technical field

NOTE: Consideration may be given to those holding at least a Bachelor's degree and 15+ years of work experience in the following:
• Developing systems for airborne, rugged ground vehicle applications or other military applications
• Designing systems using Model Based System Engineering (SysML)
• Modular open architecture standards such as HOST, SOSA, VICTORY, MORA, FACE, OMS, OpenVPX, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing systems for airborne, rugged ground vehicle applications, or other military applications
• Experience working with modular open architecture standards such as HOST, SOSA, VICTORY, MORA, FACE, OMS, OpenVPX, etc.
• Experience working directly with sponsor technical and managerial representatives
• Experience leading small to mid-sized technical tasks and/or teams
• Familiarity with designing systems architectures within DoDAF requirements
• Familiarity with designing systems using Model Based System Engineering (SysML)
• Familiarity with MBSE tools such as MagicDraw, Sparxx EA, etc
• Active SECRET clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
