At Apple's Biomechanics Research Center, we bring together area specialists in a premier research facility to deliver science-backed design insights for the development of hardware products. In this role you'll design and carry out innovative, meticulous experiments that drive rapid, systematic, iterative product design. We're looking for researchers who are ready to be experienced collaborators on an interdisciplinary team answering questions about physical interaction with Apple products. The Applied Sensory Perception Researcher will bring the expertise to consider how customers' physical senses influence their experience and ability to use Apple products.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience designing and executing studies on topics such as psychophysics, somatosensory perception, thermal perception, haptics, psychoacoustics or multi-sensory integration.
  • Track record of delivering scientific results on a schedule.
  • History of collaboration on interdisciplinary teams, especially with designers or engineers.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to translate research findings into product recommendations and insights
  • Excellent technical interpersonal skills and ability to make a case with data

Description

The Applied Sensory Perception Researcher will be responsible for framing research questions, conducting human studies, interpreting results, and communicating measurable insights. This role will require both expertise in the physiology of tactile, thermal, mechanical sensing, and curiosity about how those principles can translate to product design choices. The researcher is expected to be highly skilled in data analysis, interpretation, and communication. An in-depth understanding of and broad appreciation for human physiology and psychology is a must-have. Since this group will work directly with product designers, it's an essential skill for the researcher to communicate scientific findings in a concise and meaningful manner.

Education & Experience

Advanced degree (M.S. or PhD) or 3+ years of industry research experiences in a relevant field, such as cognitive science, psychology, neuroscience,
