Job Title: Applied Mathematics Intern
Location: Washington - Pullman

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

· Use robust mathematical tools across diverse areas of research to apply creative solutions to technical problems 

· Research advanced topics and systematically and scientifically test new ideas  

· Clearly and concisely document findings 

· Support research efforts and staff as needed 

Required Qualifications 

· Current student pursuing a degree in mathematics or statistics in at least their junior year 

· Ability to research advanced topics in depth and apply techniques and/or concepts to new domains 

· Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to current technical challenges 

· Demonstrated ability to effectively document and communicate research methods, analysis, and results 

· Exceptional attention to detail 

· Ability to work independently

 

Preferred Qualifications 

· Current graduate student pursing an advanced degree in mathematics or statistics 

· Familiarity with a range of subjects possibly including linear algebra, data science, machine learning, computational science, graph theory, signal processing, information theory, coding theory, cryptography, probability, statistics, differential equations, optimization, etc. 

· Experience using programming languages such as Python, R, or Matlab
