Weekly Hours: 7

Role Number:200282605

At Apple's Biomechanics Research Center we bring together area experts
in a world-class research facility to deliver science-backed design
insights for the development of hardware products. In this role you'll
design and carry out innovative, rigorous experiments that drive
systematic, iterative product design. We're looking for researchers
who are ready to be expert collaborators on an interdisciplinary team
answering tough questions about physical interaction with Apple
products. The Applied Biomechanics Researcher will bring the expertise
to make the principles and techniques of biomechanics an integral part
of development of future products.

Key Qualifications

  • PhD or 5+ years research experience in an engineering or
  • science field with biomechanics specialization (such as musculoskeletal
  • mechanics, soft tissue mechanics, injury/rehabilitation, exoskeletons,
  • or assistive devices)
  • Coursework in mechanics, statistics, modeling and simulation
  • Collaboration within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Hands on experience with one or more experimental methods to
  • study human movement (such as motion capture, electromyography (EMG),
  • force/pressure instrumentation)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
  • Scripting for scientific analysis (such as Matlab or Python)
  • Modeling and simulation (such as OpenSim, finite element analysis)
  • *Additional Requirements*
  • A creative, curious, can-do mindset.

Description

The researcher will be responsible for framing research questions,
conducting human studies, interpreting results, and communicating
actionable insights. The ideal researcher is expected to balance
scientific curiosity and engineering practicality, and be comfortable
working hands-on with prototypes. The researcher will be expected to
work with mechanical, electrical, and soft goods engineers on building
novel and custom instrumentations. The researcher needs to be able to
gather and synthesize robust biomechanics data with subjective
participant feedback, creatively adapting research methods when needed.
The researcher needs to be highly skilled in data analysis and
interpretation. An in-depth understanding of and broad appreciation
for physics and human biology is a must-have. Since this group will
work directly with product designers, it's an essential skill for the
researcher to communicate scientific findings in a concise and
actionable manner.
