Job Description

GTRI-CIPHER is seeking a Lead for the internal Information Technology group Application Support Team (AST), responsible for managing a team full-time professionals and several students. The CIPHER IT team supports over 350 researchers, engineers, and support staff tackling complex and novel IT challenges for commercial and government customers. The CIPHER IT team is distributed across multiple campus buildings and supports a sizable base of remote users across the United States. The candidate will work closely with the CIPHER Lead CSR (Director of IT), the CIPHER Operations and Infrastructure Leads to facilitate and improve day-to-day IT operations for CIPHER to provide IT solutions to our customers.

Outside of internal operations, the Application Support Team Lead is expected to actively participate in sponsored research programs across the laboratory above and beyond providing technology support. Many of GTRI-CIPHERs programs require sophisticated information technology platforms and, as such, the AST Lead will be required to hold a Department of Defense Top Secret clearance.

Job Duties:

  • Lead the technical design and development of GTRI/CIPHER IT Operations applications and information systems.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation activities of the CIPHER IT Operations AST , including application development;
    • web and mobile services, configuration management tools, data integrations, database administration;
  • Work closely with leadership, stakeholders, and CIPHER Project/Process Management to effectively translate business strategy and objectives into technological capability.
  • This role is specific to the CIPHER IT Group.

Key Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage the GTRI-CIPHER Operations Application Support Team (Currently 1 full time employee and several students)
  • Architect/Design, implement and maintain CIPHER web services, web sites and web APIs
  • Architect/Design, implement and maintain data integrations and data ETL (extract/transform/load)
  • Architect/Design, implement and maintain configuration management tools for life-cycle management of desktops, laptops, and servers
  • Actively promote the creative use of technology to improve productivity and customer service
  • Develop and manage key relationships within GTRI and across the Georgia Tech Campus
  • Respond in an effective and timely manner to information system requests for support as escalated by divisions within CIPHER and/or end-users
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Business, or related discipline.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Business, or related discipline and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Business, or related discipline and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Business, or related discipline.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Business, or related discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Business, or related discipline

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
