We are looking for multiple PhD-students for our new "Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Public Health Research" (ZKI-PH) in Wildau. Join the Robert Koch Institute – one of Germany's largest departmental (governmental) research institutions. We look forward to meeting you.
This is a part-time position with 25.35 hours per week (65 % of a full-time position), with the remainder of the time being reserved for you to work on your PhD research.
We offer you the opportunity to work on exciting research projects for the benefit of Public Health with the qualification goal of a PhD after 3 years as well as integration into one of our interdisciplinary, innovative and international teams. Your responsibilities:
Conduct scientific research in the field of artificial intelligence with a particular focus on Public Health, e.g.:
- Work independently on exciting research projects at the interface of AI, medicine and bioinformatics for the benefit of Public Health, e. g. in one of the following areas:
- Further development of early warning systems, risk assessment of pathogens; optimization of the calculation of disease burdens, visualization of complex correlations, Big Data analyses, automated analysis of high-throughput experiments in molecular biology, image and video analyses as well as pattern recognition of complex public health data.
- Manage and integrate data, develop novel algorithms/methods, and provide quality assurance for this work
- Presentation of research results at national and international congresses and symposia
- create scientific publications as well as project and research reports

Requirements
Educational requirements
- a completed university degree (university diploma, master's degree or state examination) in a relevant (information) technical, scientific, medical, public health field or similar
If you have foreign degrees and certificates, please document equivalence with a German qualification.
Required skills and experience
- Experience in quantitative data analysis and in handling complex bodies of data
- Knowledge of and ideally well-established working experience in the common programming languages
- Research experience in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and/or deep learning in one or more areas of research related to the ZKI-PH
Desirable skills and experience
- Initial experience writing scientific publications and/or presenting scientific work at conferences or similar
- Initial experience within the field of AI
Further requirements
- Languages skills (CEFR-Level): English at least C1
- Language skills (CEFR level): German basic knowledge (A2)
- Willingness to acquire German skills via self-directed studies
