Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) System Engineering Division (SEN) is currently seeking an experienced Android developer for a full time research faculty position in the Advanced Human Integration Branch (AHIB). This position will perform Android applications development and maintain an understanding of common architectural and design patterns.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Collaborate with systems engineers to specify high level software requirements
  • Document software requirements and design implementations
  • Develop software for Android devices as a team contributor and/or leader
  • Conduct unit tests for developed software and support broader test support needs as necessary
  • Develop and present technical presentations for internal peer reviews and sponsor design reviews
  • Interface and coordinate with other team members including other developers, testers, system engineers, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience developing Android applications and multiple published open source apps
  • Experience with REST APIs and both their structure and consumption on mobile platforms
  • Experience with common architectural patterns and common design patterns
  • Familiarity with functional programming and unidirectional data flow
  • Experience working in an Agile environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of professional experience working with the idiomatic Kotlin development language, or a published open source app demonstrating Kotlin competency
  • Familiarity with separation of concerns and the single responsibility principle
  • Familiarity with dependency injection and its usages in mobile systems
  • Experience working with RxJava
  • Experience developing in an Internet of Things environment; system apps are a plus
  • Experience working with automated testing systems such as Robot framework
  • Experience developing APIs & SDKs for third parties to consume

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
