Job Description

The Algorithms and Analysis position in the Electronic Systems Integration Division (ESID) supports algorithms and analysis projects for the Department of Defense (DoD) manned and unmanned avionics improvement programs. The Algorithms and Analysis Branch (AAB) is responsible for the development and support of state-of-the-art algorithms involving sensor fusion, sensor tasking, sensor performance, and data processing. AAB subject matter experts do statistical analysis of deployed military systems to characterize and quantify system qualities and deficiencies. The analysis results in recommendations and development of improvements.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Develop military Algorithms, Data Fusion, Sensor Fusion, Machine Learning, Genetic Programming, and Data Analysis solutions
  • Participate in the advancement of data fusion algorithms toward advancing sponsor fielded systems' capabilities
  • Interact with sponsors and their designees to ensure sponsor satisfaction with work products and develop new sponsorship
  • Contribute to proposal development containing Algorithms, Data Fusion, Sensor Fusion, Machine Learning, Genetic Programming, or Data Analysis
  • Serve as the project or task lead for assigned projects being responsible for the cost, schedule, technical quality, staffing, and sponsor interface
  • Ensure that all technical work is performed and documented to organizational and DoD standards (e.g. ISO 9001, DO-178C, mission-critical) based on project requirements
  • Enforce organization policies and practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  •  A Bachelors degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience developing Algorithms, Data Fusion, Sensor Fusion, Machine Learning, Genetic Programming, or Data Analysis for military or avionics systems using disciplined engineering processes and methodologies
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical field
  • Experience participating in small teams composed of 3 or more research engineers.
  • Experience creating and delivering technical presentations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Python and/or MATLAB
  • Experience with statistical analysis, engineering processes, and methodologies
  • Experience working with systems engineers and program managers to understand project needs and requirements
  • Experience with configuration management and requirements management systems
  • Experience leading small to mid-sized teams and/or projects and tasks
  • Active security clearance
