Job Description

The Aircraft Sustainment Researcher in the Test Engineering Division (TEN) will be part of a team working with industry, academia, and the Department of Defense (DoD) in order to provide novel approaches to solve complicated aircraft sustainment challenges. Employing continuous process improvement practices, the aircraft sustainment researcher will learn the customer's processes, culture, and information technology (IT) limitations in order to recommend solutions that will improve enterprise-level aircraft sustainment.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Research and analyze processes, organizational culture, and IT infrastructure related to the sustainment and maintenance of commercial and DoD aircraft
  • Research and define capabilities, processes, and technical gaps as they relate to aircraft readiness and sustainment
  • Coordinate with the Project Director (PD) to develop and specify technical requirements, schedules, and program risk analysis
  • Propose aircraft sustainment and process improvement projects and develop sponsor relationships to build on opportunities and secure future opportunities
  • Facilitate technical meetings with sponsors and industry collaborators, serving as the subject matter expert for aircraft maintenance, logistics, and/or sustainment processes when required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in a commercial and/or DoD aircraft maintenance, logistics, and sustainment environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing and implementing process improvement plans
  • Experience leading small to mid-sized teams and/or projects
  • Experience with aircraft logistics support and/or maintenance process management
  • Experience with business development activities and sponsor engagement
  • FAA maintenance certifications and/or A&P license (Airframe and Power Plant License)
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Experience with Theory of Constraints
  • Project Management Professional Certification

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
