We have openings for Air Conditioning Mechanics. You will perform specialized tasks in air-conditioning, heating or ventilation and air- conditioning/refrigeration (HVAC) controls maintenance, installation, and repair. This position is in the Facilities and Infrastructure Department and may be located at LLNL main site (Site 200) or at Site 300 in Tracy, California.

Essential Duties
- Assist in installation, alteration, diagnostics, repair, operation, maintenance, adjustment and monitoring of HVAC equipment using hand and power tools of the trade. Recover, recycle, and reclaim refrigerants.
- Assist with piping repair and installation, related to the HVAC system, including drain lines.
- Assist in repairing and replacing pneumatic control lines and valves relating to heating and cooling coil control valves, unit heaters, and thermostatic controls.
- Perform routine maintenance at a journey level.
- Communicate on a regular basis with management, administrative, craft personnel and customers regarding work activities and status while ensuring customer needs / issues are resolved in an effective and timely manner.
- Provide written and verbal reports as directed; complete standard reports; deficiency forms; preventive maintenance and work orders using a computer or mobile device and associated software.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the 822.2 Level
- Responsible for installation, alteration, diagnostics, repair, operation, maintenance, adjustment and monitoring of chillers and other HVAC systems along with piping repair and installation related to the HVAC system, including drain lines Recover, recycle, and reclaim refrigerants.
- Repair and replace pneumatic control lines and valves relating to pressure reducing stations, heating and cooling coil control valves, unit heaters, and thermostatic controls.
- Provide test, adjust, and balancing services on air handling and hydronic systems in accordance with the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) procedural standards for testing, adjusting, and balancing of environmental systems and manage building conditions through the utilization of computerized energy/building management systems and equipment.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of apprenticeship program in air-conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and/or ventilation trades or equivalent experience.
- Basic journey level skills, knowledge and abilities in the air-conditioning, refrigeration, heating and/or ventilation trade and the ability to apply Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) laws and regulations training.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid EPA Universal Certification to work with refrigerants.
- Ability to interpret mechanical building construction drawings and manufacturers mechanical schematics to assist in maintenance, alterations and installations of HVAC equipment and systems.
- Experience using hand and power tools of the HVAC trade.
- Effective customer service and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with clients and a multi-disciplinary team and the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks with changing priorities.
- Computer skills necessary to complete time reporting, web-based training and work orders.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Driver License.
In Addition at the 822.2 Level
- Intermediate to advanced journey level work experience in the air-conditioning, refrigeration, heating and/or ventilation trades and the application of ES&H laws and regulations training.
- EPA Universal Certification to work with refrigerants.
- Experience and knowledge of layout and installation of HVAC equipment along with the related mechanical codes.

Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of LLNL ES&H policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of Automated Logic Systems, Trane, Metasys, and Invensys direct digital control systems.
- Experience and knowledge in chillers and low temperature refrigeration.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidiomycosis).

The Laboratory performs a variety of work, including some that may fall under Davis Bacon Act requirements. When work scope falls under this Act, the Laboratory complies with the prevailing wage requirements.
