Job Description

The Aerospace Transportation and Advanced Systems Laboratory in Orlando, FL is searching for an Aerospace Simulation Engineer for an Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) position assigned from GT/GTRI to the United States Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation in Orlando, Florida. The IPA will advise and assist the government in determining and managing the best ways to connect simulators (current and new) so that Special Operations crews can conduct distributed training with two or more aircraft linked in a common battlespace with accurate threat actions and reactions and realistic battle damage depictions.

Job Duties:

Analyze technical requirements provided by the Government for completeness, consistency, traceability, and for verification. Prepare draft performance specifications used in Request for Proposals (RFP), based on new technical requirements. Review and validate aerospace engineering designs and confirm the required system performance of the assigned training system is being met; provide results of the review to the Government.

Review and validate designs, systems, and programs that mirror the experience of flying as closely as possible. Analyze aerodynamic models from multiple sources and assist in test and troubleshooting of flight simulator systems to verify accurate simulation of flight model. Assist in the preparation, review, and update of engineering program acquisition documents (Systems Engineering Plans, Test and Evaluation Management Plans, Configuration Management Plan, Information Assurance Artifacts, Safety Assessment Report ,and Requirements Traceability Matrix) for technical accuracy and provide the results to the Government.

Provide engineering support to Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) events, contribute functional expertise as a member of the project IPT and attend systems test events. Provide engineering support for planning, coordination, administration, execution, and equipment preparation to support all test activities that include review of test plans and procedures; test data collection, reduction, analysis, and reporting; and participation for test events.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or Software Engineering and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or Software Engineering and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering or Software Engineering.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or Software Engineering and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or Software Engineering and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience supporting DoD program acquisition and project execution across the acquisition life cycle
  • 3 years of experience developing engineering documentation required for DoD acquisition
  • Experience in reviewing and evaluating program documentation to include aerospace engineering and test designs and plans
  • Knowledge and experience applying DoD and service specific acquisition regulation
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools - Word, Excel, Power Point, Project

Preferred Qualifications

  • DAWAI Level 2 certified in Engineering
  • Ph.D. in aerospace or software engineering
  • Top Secret Clearance
  • Aircraft simulation software development experience
