The Algorithm & Simulation (A&S) Directorate is responsible for design and algorithm development including Guidance, Navigation, Control, and Aerodynamics; radio frequency (RF) and electro-optical/infrared (EO-IR) Signal Processing; and missile-and-sensor-level Modeling and Simulation for RMD's broad portfolio of projects, programs and products.

Job Description:
The Aerodynamics Section Lead will have a technical role on at least one program in addition to performing the day-to-day leadership of a group of aerodynamics engineers, with the primary responsibility of ensuring that each employee has suitable work assignments and opportunities for growth and advancement. Leadership duties include performance development and appraisal, salary planning, manpower planning, career coaching, and ensuring adherence to company policies. Candidates will contribute to the technical oversight of employees, monitor program execution, and provide subject matter expertise in direct support of program efforts and proposal activities. The Section Lead will be part of the Flight Sciences Department leadership team within the Algorithm and Simulation directorate.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Note: This position can be Salary Grade G09 (Senior Systems Engineer II) or Salary Grade G10 (Principal Systems Engineer) based upon the applicants qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements of the position.

Required Skills:
  • BS degree in Engineering or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Minimum six (6) years of work experience in aerodynamic design, analysis and testing, with at least three (3) of these years in missile systems applications
  • Experience with supersonic and hypersonic air vehicles, including high-speed airframe design, multi-physics analysis (e.g. aero-thermal-structural), or high-speed air breathing propulsion
  • Experience with at least four of the following: vehicle design for stability and control; aerodynamic prediction; wind tunnel testing; aerodynamic model generation; trajectory simulation; computational fluid dynamics; and propulsion modeling and integration.
  • Experience coding in Matlab and C++
  • Active Secret Level DoD Clearance

Desired Skills:
  • Prior experience in a functional or leadership role
  • Experience in aerothermal analysis, aerodynamic uncertainty quantification and modeling, flight test planning and data analysis, and computational fluid dynamics
  • Aerodynamics experience with subsonic and transonic air vehicles
  • Ability and strong desire to facilitate career growth and knowledge transfer
  • Experience in empowering employees, leading and motivating teams, fostering collaboration
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and decision making skills
  • Experience with capture effort coordination and developing proposals to obtain funding, spanning technical proposal development, work breakdown structures and cost estimation
  • Ability to effectively interact with subordinates, customers and other organizations and disciplines
  • Ability to implement strategic goals established by functional leadership across the organization
  • Knowledge of related disciplines: thermal analysis, guidance, navigation, and control; structural analysis; and system engineering design methods including requirements analysis and allocation
  • Masters/PhD Degree in an Engineering discipline, Computer Science, Math or Physics
