Job Summary:
The Algorithm & Simulation (A&S) Directorate is responsible for algorithm development including Guidance, Navigation, and Control; radio frequency (RF) and electro-optical/infrared (EO-IR) Signal Processing; and missile-and-sensor-level Modeling and Simulation for RMD's broad portfolio of projects, programs and products.
In our experience, diversity of talent and thought is what drives innovation, and we are looking for motivated engineers with subject matter expertise in guidance design and performance analysis for missile systems to perform in the role of Guidance Section Lead at our Tucson, AZ location.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • The Advanced Technology Guidance Section Lead will have a technical role on at least one program in addition to performing the day-to-day leadership of a group of GNC engineers, with the primary responsibility of ensuring that each employee has suitable work assignments and opportunities for growth and advancement.
  • In this role, you will perform leadership duties including performance development and appraisal, salary planning, manpower planning, career coaching, and ensuring adherence to company policies.
  • You will contribute to the technical oversight of employees, monitor program execution, and provide subject matter expertise in direct support of program efforts and proposal activities.
  • You will be part of the Advanced Technology Guidance Department leadership team within the Algorithm and Simulation directorate.
An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience as follows: Masters is equal to 2 years of experience or a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience.

Note: This position can be Salary Grade G09 (Manager I Systems Engineering) or Salary Grade G10 (Manager II Systems Engineering) based upon the applicants qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements of the position.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics
  • Minimum six (6) years of work experience in guidance design, analysis and testing, with at least three (3) of these years in missile systems applications
  • Academic and/or work experience that includes a combination of at least two of the following areas: digital and modern control systems, dynamics, Kalman filter design, signal processing, 6DOF simulations, or guidance algorithms
  • Experience coding in Matlab and C++
  • An active and in-scope Secret US security clearance
Qualifications We Value:
  • Prior experience in a functional or leadership role
  • Depending on technical focus area:
    - Guidance law development, state estimation, Kalman filtering, sensor fusion, trajectory shaping, path planning, miss distance performance optimization, kinematic analysis of actuation system effectors

    - Assessing GNC system integration risks through test data analysis
    - Preparing system trade studies
    - Performance analysis by simulation Monte Carlo assessments with expected system disturbances, including verification and validation techniques
    - Algorithm optimization
  • Knowledge of related disciplines: airborne RADAR systems including RF signal processing and tracking algorithms; embedded software development and hardware/software integration; system engineering design methods including requirements analysis and flowdown, specification derivation and interface control documentation
  • A commitment to facilitate career growth, empower team members and collaborate to perform knowledge transfer
  • Nurture positive interpersonal, communication and decision making skills
  • Experience supporting the capture effort coordination and developing proposals to obtain funding, spanning technical proposal development, work breakdown structures and cost estimation
  • Collaboration with subordinates, customers and other organizations and disciplines
  • Ability to implement strategic goals established by functional leadership across the organization and support employees in achieving them
  • Masters/PhD Degree in an Engineering discipline, Computer Science, Math or Physics
